After doing my taxes for last year on my craft supply shop (yes, I actually am a legit business and pay taxes and everything), I realized that the fees being charged by Etsy and Paypal are taking over 50% of my profit margin. Bullshit, yes? I try to keep my prices low because I refuse to pay the extravagant prices for craft supplies charged in stores, so why should I make you? But I can't do it anymore. Rather than raise all of my prices, I'm just closing my shop.
So head on over to Scrap It Up and use coupon code BYEBYE35 for 35% off your entire order. Just get it out of my house because I can't stand to look at it any longer. :)
Etsy used to be a really good place for people like me - not big enough to have a real store but really wanting to get buyers from outside of my neighborhood. Lately, resellers have taken over and Etsy just doesn't give a shit because it's a whole boatload of money for them. So their "handmade marketplace" is really just a gathering place for resellers to take advantage of people who think they are supporting handmade. Ridiculous.
Dear Etsy,
It's over. You and your Chinese reseller best friends can suck it. You're all putting a bad name on "handmade". I'll go back to selling in my neighborhood, or not even selling at all, before I start feeding your stupid corporation again. Just a bunch of hipster douche bags, feeding your barn wood habit with outrageous fees from your shit resellers. Good luck with that.
you could always do something like bigcartel? i never did etsy cause i felt like it was too saturated... anyways, but 50%?!?! yeeeeeeesh. hate to see you close down the shop though...
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's just ridic! I owe Etsy so much money for two of my shops. It doesn't even seem worth it. :(
ReplyDeleteI HATE those damn oversees shops that sell supplies for dirt cheap. I HATE THEM! I don't mean that in a racist way I swear to God! But I feel ya for sure, sad to see your shop go but I'm sure it's for the best if you think it is.
