Purex Review

Have you all heard of Purex? If not, you should become acquainted! Here is a bit about them, but mainly their 3-in-1 sheets, from their site:

Purex developed Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets with significant consideration to our environmental impact.

Less Water
As you may have noticed, liquid detergents have gone to smaller bottles and converted to a 2X Ultra Concentration. Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets take concentration to the next level! If everyone in the United States switched to buying Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets, 41 Olympic-sized pools worth of water would be saved each single refill purchase vs. purchasing a standard 50oz bottle of liquid detergent!

Less Packaging
The Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets Refill has 43% less packaging than the products it replaces. If every American bought just one Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheet Refill instead of even one bottle of liquid detergent, we could prevent the equivalent of 91 million detergent bottles (27 million lbs), originally destined for landfills, from being produced - keeping over 8 football fields worth of packaging out landfills.

Less Weight
CO2 emissions from transportation are reduced by 67%. With less water and packaging to transport, that's an equivalent savings of removing 3,143 cars from the road for a year versus the CO2 that would be generated from the same people buying a bottle of detergent!

I was able to review the Purex 3-in-1 laundry sheets in the Pure scent. The first thing I noticed was that they actually smell really, really, really good! I absolutely enjoy the scent. In all honesty, I was skeptical about these working. Just one sheet, in the washer and then the dryer, and it does it all? Not with my dirty clothes! Boy, was I proven wrong. These sheets ROCK. For real. It’s all contained on one sheet and it’s amazing. The sheets start out all blue, and by the time you take them out of the dryer, they are almost all white. You put it in the washer and the detergent and softener are activated by the water, being released from the sheet. Then, it’s mostly white with a blue strip. So, in the dryer it goes and the heat activates that blue strip, releasing the anti-static into your laundry. I took my laundry out of the dryer and it was clean, soft, and smelled great! I used it with regular clothes, jeans, C’s work clothes, and even blankets and I was impressed every time.

This absolutely will be my laundry product of choice from now on.

Buy it!
You can purchase any of the great items from Purex but especially the 3-in-1 sheets, from most major retailers and local supermarkets.

Friday 5

Again, I missed my Friday5 last week due to unexpected out-of-town-ness [yes, that's a word - I can spell it, that makes it a word]. So today, you get to enjoy two Friday5s again! I know you love it, don't even TRY to deny it.

May 22: Lessons
What kind of out-of-school lessons did you take as a kid?
Gymnastics, ballet

What valuable lesson did you learn this past week?
I don't know how to learn anymore!

Who in your life really needs to be taught a lesson?
LOL my parents.

What kinds of lessons would you love to have a private teacher for right now?
Umm... is there a teacher that can teach me how to get over ADHD?

What steps have you taken to lessen the impact of these rough economic times?
I got laid off. No, wait, that did NOT lessen the impact. I'm trying to do more to promote my shop, pomegranate&pink and do more craft fairs and do better managing our money.

May 29: Longs and Shorts
What is the longest you’ve gone between haircuts?
It depends on what counts. My hair used to be super short and I would cut it, so technically I didn't go get a haircut for like 3 years or something.

What is the shortest hour of the day?
ALL hours! But probably the first hour I'm up. Always seems to fly by.

What is the longest line you’ve ever stood in?
Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban midnight movie premier with Nic and Shelb

Who’s your shortest adult friend?
Arianne, I think

Who among your current friends have you known the longest?
Shibby [aka Shibrolet, Shelaxin, Shibber me Timbers, Shelb, my sister]

Now, go and do, and come back and comment. Alrighty?

Post-It Review and Giveaway

I’m sure you have all heard of Post-It before. They are the go-to for quick notes, to-do lists, phone numbers, or whatever else you need! Post-It has recently made the decision to join the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Basically, they want to do their part to help the environment! Their notes are now made from at least 30% post-consumer content. That’s pretty good, in my opinion. I really liked Post-It notes before, but this gives me even more reason to use them.

Post-It sent me some of their most popular pads to try, as well as the lined pads. I love the 3x3 pads – they are super easy to stick on the counter or in a drawer or wherever, and then you always have something to write on when needed. They are great. I also like the colors they sent me. :)

If there was such thing as falling for a Post-It note, that would be me with the lined notes. I am OCD and it absolutely kills me to have things written crooked on paper [I also can’t have more than one person’s writing on one page, but that’s a whole different psych session…]. When I need to make a to-do list, the lined notes are absolutely genius!

You can purchase any of the great items from Post-It at almost any store out there that carries office supplies.

What I Want Wednesday

Alright, I think I'm all straight on what day it is now. :) For today's edition of [What I Want Wednesday], I just got a pack of labels for Punk's stuff in the mail and they have an owl on them, so I'm going to do owls! They are a close runner-up for my favorite animals. And cartoon owls are always adorable.

[remember - click on the image to be taken to the Etsy shop the item can be found in]

CupcakesandRibbon: I freaking LOVE this hairclip. It doesn't get much cuter than that! Plus, their shop name is CupcakesandRibbon! Can you say CUTE?

Snazziedrawers: O.M.G. Please click on the pic and go to the shop - there are ruffles on the bum of this onesie! Hello, girl friends? Yah you, the ones that actually want kids? Please have a girl, SOON, so I can buy her this onesie. Thanks in advance.

mulch: this is for all my couponing friends out there - this thing is a coupon organizer! How great, eh? If I didn't already have the Couponizer I would totally get one. In fact, I'm considering getting one anyway. I'm sure there are plenty of other things I could use it to organize, right?

rainbowswirlz: LOVE this shirt and the owl that adorns it. So, so, SO cute! My summer wardrobe may need one.

Iszle: I have a white/magnet board on my desk and it has a total of three magnets on it. I NEED these. My magnet board is calling for them; yearning for them. Can't you hear it?

To all of you reading - go participate! Even if it's just one thing and it's not from Etsy, post it and let me know what you've been dying for. Pretty please? With a cupcake on top?

Medora Snacks Review

Medora Snacks is a company started by a mom who was looking for a snack for her kids that was natural but still good. Boy, did she ever accomplish it! Medora Snacks was started by Linda Fishman and now includes Lu Arcouet. They are a great company to work with; super nice and always responsive, which I believe translates directly to the quality of the product they produce.

They sent me TONS of treats to test out! I was able to try:

- Baked Sotos in Cinnamon Streusel
Super light and crispy, just enough flavor to leave you wanting more. LOVE them.

- Pucci pizza snacks in Classic
In all seriousness, imagine your typical cheese pizza. This snack tastes JUST like that. It was a really weird sensation, actually! I became highly addicted to these. :)
- Pucci pizza snacks in Tomato Basil
Again, tastes just like pizza. This flavor was a bit stronger and more spicy, but had the same addicting quality. I love, love, LOVE the Pucci pizza snacks!

- Pogos in White Cheddar
The texture of this little zig-zag crisp was insane. Incredibly light and fluffy, yet still enough crunch for you to know it was there. I’m a huge white cheddar fan; these were a little different than most white cheddars I’ve tried but still super yummy.

- Corners in Sea Salt
These remind me of rice cakes, which for me, is a good thing. I love rice cakes! They are actually popped corn, which I thought was really cool. They were light but substantial. I loved the flavor – very lightly dusted with a real salt.
- Corners in Zesty Ranch
Again, loved these. I’m a HUGE ranch fan so these were the first bag opened and they were devoured quickly. Turbo and I shared them – he loves ranch, too. :)

All in all, I absolutely loved everything I tried. All had a great flavor and great texture but are still natural and pretty good for your body. I can pronounce all ingredients in the list and know what each and every one of them are, and that’s a great thing! My verdict? Rush out and buy some of these. They really are a great snack that’s great for you.

Buy it!

Ten on Tuesday

WHAAAAAAAAAT??!?!? Yesterday was Tuesday? Where did that time go? I'm all mixed up in my days. Bleh. Anyway... Pretend it's still Tuesday because I'm going to participate in the Ten on Tuesday from Ya Know What I Mean anyway. Ready? Okay, here goes.

[10 celebrities you're tired of]
1. Freakin' Britney Spears! I've had enough of hearing about her.
2. Speidi. Otherwise known as Heidi and Spencer.
3. OctoMom
4. TomKat
5. Brangelina [I love this couple only because she's stunning and he's beautiful and their kids are darling, and I am sick of hearing the break-up talk. If they are breaking up, trust me, it's going to be hard enough - leave them be.]
6. LiLo! Egh - lesbian or not lesbian? Publicity stunt.
7. Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus
8. Jonas Brothers
9. Bret Michaels [it doesn't work the first time, it doesn't work the second time, what makes you think it will work the third time?]
10. Amy Winehouse

I know it's not Tuesday but we are still pretending so leave me a comment if you participate, K?

Story Fort Review and Giveaway

Story Fort is this awesome company that creates interactive digital stories for kids. Here’s a little more about Andy [the owner] and the company.

Founder and CEO, Andy Hull, graduated from Brown University in 2003 with a degree in computer science. He then spent five years as a designer at leading toy company, Melissa and Doug, where he created several award-winning, best-selling toys. Andy is also the author, illustrator and programmer of Story Fort’s first title, What Is Bothering Carl?.

Story Fort is a digital publishing company specializing in interactive books for kids.
Story Fort’s products provide fun story telling for children, while developing their reading skills and engaging their imaginations. Founded in 2009 by Andy Hull, Story Fort is currently looking forward to launching many more exciting products.

Not only does Story Fort have this darling interactive book, they also have a lot of fun things for kids on their site, like printable coloring pages and computer background images, that can be found here.

I was able to review their first book, What Is Bothering Carl?. This is SUCH a fun book! It’s not too long for kids to lose interest, the illustrations are darling, the interaction is fun; this book has it all. You can choose whether you want it to read to you, or you want to read it yourself. As you go through, some of the words are highlighted, and hovering over them gives you an image of what the word is referring to. Very helpful for kids! And, there are little things you can click on in the pages that cause a reaction – birds jump and chirp, sheep bah, Carl cries, etc. It’s such a cute book. There are also music videos to sing and dance along to!

My favorite part is that at the end, you can play a match game. I know this book is for kids, but seriously, if you play on hard, it’s actually HARD! I have a difficult time beating the computer on the hard setting. For Punk, she can win most times on easy but has a tough time on the medium setting.

Buy it!
You can purchase any of the great items from Story Fort here.

Win it!
Story Fort has generously offered one of my fabulous readers a full digital copy of the interactive storybook that I reviewed, What Is Bothering Carl? [retail value of $15].

LittleMissMatched Review

I was able to review a set of socks from LittleMissMatched. This company is SO cute! Here is a little about them, from their site:
I’m LittleMissMatched and it’s been my mission to: 1) solve the age-old problem of the disappearing sock, 2) transform everyday products into necessary accessories, 3) give kids of all ages permission to express themselves and 4) allow girls to be girls for as long as they want.

But socks were just the beginning. I've got all kindsa stuff that'll knock your boring white socks off! From books to bedding, PJ’s to pencil pouches and flip flops to furniture, I’m all about creativity and individuality. I want you to express yourself!

My innovative products are fashion forward AND evergreen. And best of all, they balance high quality, ingenuity, and FUN!

The media, celebrities and retailers alike have fallen madly in love with yours truly! Why? Cuz who else lets you: 1) be as missmatched as you wanna be, 2) go crazy with your creativity, 3) unleash your inner child to come out and play?!

Told you they were a cute company.

LittleMissMatched sent me the socks to review in honor of a national holiday that some of you may not know exists. It’s Lost Sock Memorial Day [celebrated May 9th every year]. You can learn more about the Holiday here. There are games and crafts to celebrate lost socks, and all sorts of other fun things, plus more about the day itself.

You know what’s great about LittleMissMatched? You never have to worry about a lost sock! They come in sets of three rather than pairs, and they don’t match. Ever. On purpose! I have OCD and was a little worried about non-matching socks bothering me, but I seriously love them. They are so freaking cute and not to mention, really super comfy. They are fabulously soft and not too thick.

Another great thing was the packaging. My set of socks had all sorts of fun things to do on the package! Not your average boring cardboard sock holder. It had a personality quiz, a color wheel, and also a postcard to design your own socks! It says that you get a free surprise if you send it in; you can count on me sending it in. I’m so juvenile sometimes, but I have a great sock idea in my head. :)

Buy it!

What I Want Wednesday

Welcome to this week's edition of What I Want Wednesday! I think I'm going to do a Pirate theme today. :) Remember, if you've got something you want to share with the group, please create a WIWW post of your own! You don't have to follow my theme; make one of your own. Alrighty? All arms and legs inside the ride? Good, onto pirates... [p.s. click on each of the images to be taken to the shop from which the item was found, mmmkay?]

mamarunswithscissors: Oh my. This is possibly the most darling pirate set I've ever seen, which is a rare thing - pirates and being darling. LOVE IT.

spunksweetshoppe: These cufflinks make me want to buy a suit, just so I can put them in the sleeves.

DogboneArt: I cannot take the perfectness of this shirt. Cupcakes and pirates. My day is made.

Rags2BagzOriginals: I love this bag! It's got the cute polka dot bottom, but combines it with downright awesomeness on top. Plus a ribbon. My heart is yours, pirate purse.

hairshopofhorrors: I highly suggest clicking on this pic and going to this shop. They have some of the greatest hair accessories I've ever seen! Besides the ones I make, of course. :)

And it just wouldn't be right of me to not include the hottest pirate himself, Captain Jack Sparrow. I don't typically like guys in makeup, but Mr. Depp? H.O.T.

FUN Review and Giveaway

A little about the great gals at FUN, from the site:
Gina Flanagan, an award-winning costume illustrator who worked exclusively in the feature film world, searched like most moms for ways to send her kids to school happy. When her older daughter reported that lunchtime was sometimes lonely for her, Gina began to draw fun notes and put them in her lunchbox. The notes were much more than just a note on a napkin; elaborately illustrated, they grabbed the whole lunch table's attention. Soon a crowd waited to see mom's next cool drawing.

When her younger daughters suffered separation anxiety, Gina drew fancy pictures with words that their teachers would read to them -- and soon enough, they couldn't wait to get to school to see their lunch cards.

The cards became more elaborate as the tide of feedback from the kids came in. Gina began to find fun facts and nationally recognized food days that would coordinate with that day's lunch ingredients. Soon calls came from other moms, asking where she got the cards and wondering how they could put them in their own kids' lunches. The idea of turning the cards into a business came organically.

Rose Cricchio, also a mom, is the second half of the duo. Rose, who left the worldwide Warner Bros. retail arm to raise her kids, brings her graphic artwork to the project. Her style and talent, combined with Gina's illustrations, give the cards their unique flair.

I got five packs of the FUN lunchbox cards to review - Mystical Litte People, Riddles, Eeeww, that's Gross!, It's a Wacky World, and Looney Laws. They came all wrapped up with ribbon [they called it a hug from them – cuteness], and you all should know that I’m a sucker for ribbon. That instantly sold me. :)

Both packs are really colorful with amazing illustrations. What I love about them is that you can tell they are directed at winning kids over. The faces are silly, the backgrounds are fun; all in all, I love them. Punk could not wait to get to read her cards! She now has them all in a stack in her room and makes me read them to her every day she’s at our house. When anyone new comes over, she reads them the cards. Then, she reads them to us and makes us pretend to not know what the cards say. She definitely enjoys them!

2. San Diego, CA
3. San Antonio, TX

6. Riverside, CA [by the train tracks... so many childhood summer memories]
7. Oceanside, CA

Kid Quest Review

About Kid Quest, from their site:
Kid Quest is a grass roots project. It is advertising free. We don’t answer to consultants or stockholders, but instead follow our instincts as parents and concerned citizens to produce content for which we feel extremely responsible.

Kid Quest presents real role models, not actors put in contrived situations. The youngsters we feature are honest, focused and passionate about what they do. They don’t follow the pack, but rather follow their inner voice and make their dreams real. There are two big messages we want our audience to take away after viewing our shows: #1 - It’s okay to be different from the rest of the crowd, #2 – It’s important for everybody to find something to “jazz” them! Of course, one can’t help but to learn interesting facts watching our show, but we don’t bang viewers over the head with information. Instead, the goal of Kid Quest is to present a tapestry of possibilities with heaps of enthusiasm.

Punk and I were able to review their first DVD. It was really cool! There are three kids highlighted in the movie; one is a beekeeper, one is a circus performer and one is a rodeo queen. And they are all just kids! How amazing.

The movie was from the point-of-view of each of the children, so it made it easy for Punk to understand what they were talking about and trying to teach because it was from someone her age. It’s so much easier to explain something to a kid when you are one! It didn’t come off overly educational, and they didn’t spend too much time on each story. It seems like the producers really do know what it takes to get into kids’ heads with these! As much as it was geared towards kids, it wasn’t too childish. What I mean is - there was no big purple dinosaur or Spanish-speaking girl so it wasn’t annoying for me to watch. :)

It’s hard for me to try to teach Punk new things because we have her so little compared to how much she’s at her other house, but when she is with us I am always trying to make sure she feels like she can be herself. This DVD really helps with that point!

Breakpal Review

I was able to review this site called Breakpal.

Breakpal is this really cool site that helps get you exercising during your day. It’s especially great for people that sit at a desk all day long [like yours truly]. When you first go to it, it downloads a widget that hangs out on your computer screen, and every so often Liz [the creator] pops up and tells you it’s time to exercise. You then go in and pick which exercise you would like to do, and you do it! You can pick from a bunch of different types of exercises, most of which can be done sitting at a desk. A little video plays and shows you how to do the exercise, and does it with you for 2-3 minutes. That’s all it takes! I’ve got mine set to pop up every 60 minutes, so I’m [attempting] to get in a few minutes each hour. Not only is it great for your mind and body, it also is a great mini-break from work. Say you work an 8-hour day, and you exercise for 3 minutes once an hour [SO easy]. That’s 24 minutes of exercise that you wouldn’t have gotten that day! You can choose to have it pop up every 30 minutes, which would give you 48 minutes. WOW! How many of you can say that you can easily find 48 minutes in your day to exercise? Not me! But this makes it easy.

I actually really like doing the exercises, the breathing especially. The only downside to it is I think I would feel weird doing it in an office full of people, but that’s the price you pay to get in the exercise needed! I do enjoy this program and recommend it; especially for my desk-working friends.

Buy it!
You can purchase a Breakpal membership here for only $9.95 a month. Much cheaper than a gym membership!

Sunday Stealing

This blog is kind of cool - they go around and check out the memes and pick good ones each Sunday. I dig their idea. So, here is today's.

[the 29'er meme]
1. What bill do you hate paying the most?
The sewer/water/garbage bill. We are forced to pay WAY too much for those each month.

2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner?
I don't really believe in romance or take part in it, so really, we don't do "romantic" dinners. The last time we had dinner just the two of us was Thursday. :)

3. How many colleges did you attend?
Just 1, if you can even consider UVU a college. It's more like high school.

4. Why did you choose the shirt that you have on right now?
I'm still in PJs and I chose this shirt because it's comfy.

5. First thought when the alarm went off this morning?
No alarm! It's Sunday, silly.

6. Last thought before going to sleep last night?
I just finished watching The Happening and thought, "what a weird movie".

7. What do you miss about being a child?
Recess. It's almost like you were forced into taking a break. I think all people should incorporate some sort of 'recess' into their days.

8. What errand/chore do you despise?
Clothes shopping. HATE it.

9. Have you found real love yet?
Yup!

10. What do you get every time you go into Wal-Mart?
Pepsi

11. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual?
Being married myself, I almost have to say no, but I kind of do. I don't think marriage is required to devote yourself to someone. Sometimes marriage doesn't work for people.

12. What famous person would you like to have dinner with?
I really have no idea. I don't have anyone that I really idolize that's famous. Maybe Einstein.

13. Ever had to use a fire extinguisher for its intended purpose?
Yah, our sandrail caught on fire once when we were at the dunes and we had to use our fire extinguisher. It was scary!

14. Somewhere in California you've never been and would like to go?
I would love to go see the Redwoods.

15. At this point in your life would you rather start a new career or a new relationship?
I was kind of forced to start a new career at the beginning of this year, so I guess that got done for me. I'm happy with my current marital relationship, but I would like to meet another friend or two.

16. Do you have a “go to” person?
Depends on what it is. Dorothee and Shelby both have to listen to me sometimes.

17. Are you where you want to be in life?
I would love to have become a millionaire already so that my husband didn't have to work, but that hasn't happened. Although, I'm at a pretty good spot.

18. Over the years, what about you do you think has changed the most?Wow, a lot! I used to be a partier with no desire to be in a relationship and now I don't party and am married with a step-daughter.

19. Looking back at high school were they the best years of your life? Not a chance. I hated high school.

20. Are there times you still feel like a kid?
Every day!

21. Where was the hang out spot when you were a teenager?
The Cono-HO. :)

22. Who do you think impacted your life the most?
That's hard to say. I've had some friends commit suicide and others die from drug overdose and all of them have really influenced my life and decisions greatly.

23. Was there a teacher or authority figure that stood out for you?
My 7th grade English teacher. She was the last English teacher I ever liked and the last time I actually passed that class.

24. Do you tell stories that start with “when I was your age”?
No! I'm way too young for that.

25. What is the scariest thing that has happened to you as an adult?
My motorcycle accident. Well, actually there was a guy that I used to ride with that wrecked about a week after I did. He was in ICU for a few days and then died. Going to see him was scarier than the accident because it made me see what could have easily happened to me a week earlier, but I got lucky.

26. What advice would you give to someone about to get married?
TURN AND RUN!!! No, I'm kidding [kind of]. Just make sure it's what you really want. No matter what everyone says, marriage is HARD and takes a lot of work.

27. What advice would you give someone starting their first job?
Learn all that you can and do your best, always. You never know when you're going to be the janitor at the next big company! [the janitor that worked for Microsoft their first year is now a millionaire because he got stock in the company for Christmas. See what can happen?]

28. If you could go back and change one thing you did, what would it be?You think I could post that on my blog?! Heh, no way.

29. If you could go back and change one thing someone else did, what would it be?
Wow. There is so much that could be listed here. Can I take back dying? I want my grandpa to come back and not die so early in my life. I miss him.

A little about Dr. Fresh, from their site:

Dr. Fresh is the pioneer in innovative affordable toothbrushes that make kids want to brush. Dr. Fresh brands include Dr. Fresh Dailies, Dr. Fresh Travel Kits, Firefly, Binaca, TEK and licensed products such as Marvel Heroes, Peanuts an Barbie. We at Dr. Fresh are very pleased that you have found us, and we hope that we can provide you with high quality oral and personal care products for kids and adults at affordable prices!

Since 1998 Dr. Fresh has been focused on manufacturing quality oral care products, from baby toothbrushes to denture tablets. The Dr. Fresh brand expressly caters to the consumer who seeks high quality at a reasonable price (the best of both worlds). Using innovation in design and intelligence in the manufacturing process, we pride ourselves on products that offer the utmost in personal care value.

These toothbrushes are fun. They are big enough for little hands to grip and are sparkly, with what Punk referred to as a “squishy spot” at the end, that activates the light. Not only does this toothbrush make it easier for kids to know how long they need to brush for, it’s fun! Punk always closes her mouth around the toothbrush and watches her cheeks light up in the mirror. Hey, at least she’s brushing her teeth! I definitely recommend these to anyone with children.
