It's the year 3013 in cosmopolitan Nanjing ... and Rumer, a sixteen-year- old apprentice reporter for the Global Quotidien, is secretly investigating bizarre nature sightings with her tiny sidekick, Qix. Little does she know that she's hot on the trail of a chain of events that will soon determine the fate of life on the planet forever. Thanks to AME, I got to review a copy of Rumer & Qix. This book is pretty interesting! I think it would be perfect for a tween/teen that’s into sci-fi, much like my little brother [who, by the way, is not so little]. It follows Rumer through quite the adventure, and it’s pretty fun to follow along. The way the author portrays the future is really strange but something I could totally see happening at some point. Basically, the earth is no longer a natural place – they’ve taken everything and covered it in synthetic materials so that nothing really grows or lives from the planet. Pretty weird. But, Rumer goes on her journey to try to find the real Earth [or Terra Incognita, as they refer to it] that is hidden under the Syncov [the fake stuff]. Definitely a different story, but fun to read!
